Mental Health
Mental health has become a major topic in todays society. With more exposure and awareness, mental health has become a world wide subject. We now can have open discussions about mental illnesses and discussing the range of possible options to cope and live with mental illnesses while also increasing acknowledgement in mental health among adults and youth.
Educating and enlightening individuals about mental health not only provides insight but also can provide people living a mental illness to seek proper help.
In today’s society, more than 1 in 5 adults lives with a mental illness and over 1 in 5 youths either currently or at some point during their life, have had a seriously debilitating mental illness. Depression is one of the leading causes of disability while suicide is the fourth leading cause of death among 15 to 29 year olds. People with severe mental health conditions die prematurely – as much as two decades early – due to preventable physical conditions.
Many mental health conditions can be effectively treated at a relatively low cost, yet the gap between people needing care and those with access to care remains substantial. Effective treatment coverage remains extremely low. It is our goal to reduce this gap and increase the effectiveness of treatment in order to reduce the stigma of seeking help and improving the overall mental wellbeing of our community. The Gautam Family Foundation is committed to helping others by conveying acts of kindness that will benefit the quality of life of others.
